Sunburns may be painful, itchy and also quite dangerous, and prevention is the best remedy, of course. It doesn't matter what color shade your skin has, you need to protect if from direct sun, using high sun block creams. First signs of redness on some area should be noticed. As soon you notice them, you should take a shower, where there is a possibility for it, or rinse these areas with water. After that, apply your sun cream and put your hat on, as well as some comfortable clothes. Spend the rest of the day in the shade, to avoid further damages. Wearing a hat is always a very good idea, by the way, especially if you have really sensitive skin.

Once you come home, take a cold shower and leave the skin to dry naturally, without using a towel. Depending how serious your sunburns are, you might be having blisters on some area. If you do, apply a generous amount of mild moisturizer, containing aloe vera and, if it is really needed, protect the skin with a gaze. Take frequent showers to ease the pain and discomfort.

Skin products containing aloe very are the best when it comes to sunburns. They will cool the area, help regeneration and reduce swelling. In some similar products you might find benzocaine or different fragrances. Such products are not good for this purpose, and may make things worst, or cause allergies and additional itching.

You may also consider taking aspirin or pain killers, preferably those containing ibuprofen. Ibuprofen eases pain, but also reduces swelling. Stay inside, drink fresh water and fresh fruit juices, with no alcohol. Alcohol might dehydrate your skin additionally, and, considering taking painkillers, it might not be a good idea to consume it in this situation.

If you don't have blisters, you may want to try this old medicine for sun damaged skin. Apply fresh, cold yogurt on clean skin and leave it there for some time. Rinse with cold water. You can also use sour cream, slices of cucumber, or even tomato slices, just to cool and refresh the affected area. Never rub the skin, simply rinse it and let it dry on the air.

After taking a shower, you may also apply a little bit of pure almond oil on it, while it is still wet. Almond oil helps skin regeneration and moisturize it. High quality olive oil might have similar benefits for your skin. In any case, take an aspirin or ibuprofen, drink water and rest. Remember to wear really comfortable clothes.

Another important thing is to avoid any spicy, hot or heavy food. Try to stick to light, fresh foods for a day or two, drinking large amounts of natural water, and eating fruits and vegetables. You could also have your favorite nuts for a snack. It's important to provide fuel for your body, to ease the process of recovery. Minerals and vitamins will help regeneration.
