Scraping By And More With Metal Recycling

By Sandra Perry

At no point in its evolution has human ever been the strongest of fastest extant terrestrial animal alive. Every animal of comparable mass has always had an advantage in either speed or strength. But it is not bears or gorillas with their superior speed and strength that rule the planet. No, the dominant species on the planet is man. For all of its physical limitation, the human being is able to win the game of life by being smarter and more ruthless that the other creatures on the planet. Humanity used tools, fashioned spears and knives out of rocks and sticks. The rocks and sticks gave way to bronze, then to iron, and then to steel. Metal, when combined with an indomitable spirit and an unbreakable will, was the resource that changed the course of warfare and thus, the course of history. But metal is also a finite resource, not to mention that process of extracting it can be time consuming. Which is why metal recycling St Louis is so important.

Metal is one of the most important resources in all of human history. Weapons are made with it, it used to be that wars were won by who best applied steel to flesh, who had the most steel, and most importantly, who got it to the frontlines faster. But nowadays, metal has a different use. The world runs on computers, especially the portable kind, which run on batteries generally made from a lithium ion. Now, steel is also used to make cars, the vehicles that people use to commute from their homes to their offices to their leisure spaces.

Recycling is when something is reused. When a thing is used, most people generally throw it away. But just because something is not intended for a certain use does not mean it cannot be repurposed. Or, it can be refurbished a little bit and the reused for its original purpose.

Now, it is important to recycle because there is no telling how much the world has left in resources. Food can be cultivated and grown and water naturally replenishes itself. But other resources like metals are going to keep dwindling, even if new reserves were somehow found.

Almost everything is recyclable. The thing about minerals is that they melts. Recycling it can be as easy as melting it down and repurposing it for another task.

Recycled steel is still steel. In the hands of a competent blacksmith, there is no difference between salvaged metal and non salvaged metal. The same things that can be done with steel and iron and all that can still be done.

Now, repurposing steel and other alloys can be profitable. In fact, there exists a whole industry of people illegally breaking into old homes to extract the copper wiring to sell, because copper is a profitable ware. To add to that, around half of all commercially available copper is from recycled sources.

Mining can be a dangerous activity. Salvaging can make an economy less reliant of it. Not to mention that mining can pollute the environment.

Tools are how mankind rose to the top. But those tools did not come premade they had to be shaped. The resources needed are dwindling.
