Free Tech Giveaways Websites And Offers

By Karen Richardson

In most cases, when it comes to free products and services, it usually relates to e-books, magazines, food samples, cosmetics and household goods which are available on a number of free product related websites. While this is the case, there are now a number of companies providing tech giveaways. In one case, there are daily giveaways with products being announced which individuals can either enter a lottery to win, or simply obtain by filling out a form.

When it comes to the Giveaway of the Day or GOTD website, there are a number of licensed Windows and Mac software applications provided free of charge. While this is the case, there are no updates or technical support staff available. As such, these free giveaways are directed tech savvy individuals. In addition, each software application is only offered on, and can be acquired on a specific date and time.

If there is protection software associated with a download, it must be downloaded at the same time as the software which it supports. If software or associated protection or licensing is not downloaded on the correct date, the installation will fail and as only one download per IP is available, the free offer will be null and void.

The different types of products and services offered on these free websites include photo and video editing software, file format converters, 365Office add-ons, screen-savers, system tools, shell replacements and templates. In most cases, the downloads will download and install successfully. While this is the case, if error messages were to appear during the process, it is important to cancel the process and forego the free offer. If not, there could be a risk of damaging the device being used at the time.

The main GOTD website originally used a number of techniques to protect free offerings from being absorbed and redistributed by other sites. Even with some of the best security software, a company was able to break through the barrier and do so. As such, in July of 2012, the technical team behind GOTD announced a new release of a non-branded security wrapper to prevent against any other security breaches.

At the end of the 2008, GOTD had similar plans to launch a similar project for Mac related products. While a good idea at the time, the project team decided against moving forward. As a result, there are occasionally Mac applications offered together with Windows on the same GOTD website.

In 2006, a new website, Game Giveaway Of The Day was instituted. The site which gave away games on a daily basis did prove as successful as that of the free software giveaway. Still, the beta website has been giving away games on a monthly basis since April of 2009.

Whether obtaining Mac or Windows applications and products, or games free of charge, individuals can save a great deal of time and money by doing so. In addition, as it seems technology often moves as fast as the speed of light, individuals can often update technical skills and experience by learning new applications without the need for costly computer classes. As such, what can take a few minutes to download an application or online product can often save more time and money in the future.
