Why Hiring Registered Agent Services Is Important To Your Business

By Ruth Howard

If you have the intent of running a business, it would help to get full knowledge of what is likely to be expected of you by the state. Being registered is one of the obvious obligations you will have to meet. Some states, on the other hand, will need you to have a resident representative alongside a host of other requirements. Oftentimes, hiring Registered Agent Services easily helps meet the requirement.

A good rule of thumb is to hire an RA service even when your state does not need it as part of the requirements for filing your registration documents. With so many other requirements you will be struggling to fulfill, you can easily want to overlook the RA aspect. Before you make that move, it will be helpful to take a closer look into the role this service will play.

To begin with, the RA is a third party, usually living in the same state where your business is based. This service will facilitate receipt of service of process notices. Apart from that, they will accept communication from the Secretary of State. When the government has official notifications for your company like tax forms and lawsuit notices, they will receive them on behalf of the business.

You are probably wondering why this should be so crucial to your company. Well, when you register a business in a particular area, the state wants to be sure they have a person they can use to deliver communication to your business at all times. Therefore, postal office boxes cannot be used in the place of an RA. Maintaining contact with your state is very important for your business.

You do not want to lose out on the many opportunities that recent developments in technology can offer your business. For instance, it is not uncommon these days to find a business being run in multiple states even without having physical offices in all the locations. If you are a virtual company that has been licensed to operate in particular states, the need to have an RA in those states becomes more inherent.

At the same time as the law permits you to be the statutory representative for your limited liability company; you may want to avoid such a move. The essential role of accepting legal documents and tax forms should be designated to someone else to give you the freedom to focus on expanding the business. Besides, you may also want to leave for personal reasons like take your family for vacation.

There are many reasons to designate the functions of receiving legal correspondences and tax forms besides worrying that you will miss deliveries. Some of the tax and legal documents can be possibly embarrassing to accept in the presence of customers. You may want to avoid situations that will only help to ruin your business reputation that has taken time to build.

The RA of your company should be sure to retain their address or file paperwork that notifies the state in case there are changes. When you are your own RA, this takes away the privacy you may want to have with your family. This is because the new address becomes public information that anyone can access.
