How To Create An Eye-catching Professional Online Portfolio

By Charles Scott

Employers and clients are looking for clients online as opposed to the traditional advertisement. Others are using the internet to assess character and determine the suitability of a candidate without inviting him or her for an interview. This highlights the importance of having a professional online portfolio. How do you create one that works in your favor? Here are considered tips.

Create the profile on the right platform. The internet is highly segmented with different platforms where you can upload your collection. Some take images only while others allow a combination of text and videos. It is the materials you need to upload, your target audience and personal preferences that determine the platform you choose. Keep away from platforms that are restrictive because they will prevent other people from accessing your materials. Choose a reputable platform as well.

Be consistent with the information you provide. You have no idea who will be looking for you and where he or she will find the information. If one finds information on one platform, it should be corroborated by what is available on another platform. Inconsistency will make you pass as unfaithful and in the process tarnish your image.

The collection must consider the desires of your target audience. Materials and information uploaded should be easy to relate for interested parties. For instance, if you are a photographer, you should use images compared to text. A comedian should not upload serious videos. The materials are coded and should make it easy for interested parties to decode the information.

Constantly update the profile to provide the latest information. Skills that were relevant 10 years ago could be obsolete today. However, experience in utilizing these skills will prove valuable in winning the hearts of potential recruits or clients. Search engines also consider whether a blog has been recently updated when ranking it.

The information and materials uploaded must ooze a professional image. While this information is being placed on the internet, it must not be taken lightly. Organize it in a way that will make it professional and formal. If the interested party fails to see an element of professionalism, your profile will be skipped. Choose images that are formal and appropriate for your target job.

Include contact details or directions on where you can be found. Choose the convenient channels of communication like email or phone number. The contact channels must be of emails or phone numbers that are still active. Dormant numbers and emails that you do not check will cause you to miss the opportunity. Be available to respond to correspondences because some assignments are usually urgent.

Provide precise information on the portfolio. Some details are import for consumption by clients while others are not. Only provide what is relevant to your goals and that which will help potential clients to make a decision. Details that are too personal will be tiring to read. In fact, a person should make the decision by perusing through your collection in a few minutes. Do not be too scanty nor wordy.
